Spring Glow – My Secret Tip for Exfoliation

Face exfoliation tips to prep for a spring glow (for women & men):

Help your body get rid of dead skin cells and exfoliate regularly to reveal softer, smoother skin.  By introducing exfoliation into your daily skincare routine you help to fight the signs of aging, improve tone & texture, prevent breakouts and unclog pores.

A lot of people ask me what do I do to exfoliate my skin and how often.  I have been using Dermalogica products since I was a teen and always found that their products deliver what they promise.  My skin has always been on the dry side so the tip below is what I do.

(I suggest you make an appointment at your local spa for a consultation or come by Pure if you are unsure what to use or how often you should be exfoliating your skin.)

.

I love to use the daily microfoliant. Although you can use it every day, I usually only exfoliate about 2-3 times a week and what I like to do is mix the daily microfoliant with my pre cleanse instead of water and make it part of my routine in the shower. If you have oily skin you can use it more frequently to fit your needs.

NYC’s Best Shoe Repair Shop – Jim’s on 59th

After you buy the perfect shoes, it is important to take good care of them. Hey, you want to wear them for more than one season. My fave shoe repair shop in New York City is Jim’s Shoe Repair  – 50th East 59th Street. (Or you can see the Google Map by clicking here.)
I love the six little booths they have on the left hand side for customers to sit in while they wait for their shoes to be done.  They also give a great shoe shine starting from $5.00 upwards depending if you have a shoes or boots on.  Go to Mario. He has been working there for 22 years and always looks after me.  If you have no time for a shoe shine, drop off and pick up at your own convenience.

They can fix your worst shoes/boots and bring them back to look like new.  They also offer a red sole for your Christian Louboutins!

My Top 20 Beauty Tips

  1. Dermalogica SkinPerfect Primer – if you don’t want to use a full coverage foundation but still want to create an instant smooth surface to the skin, wear alone or over your moisturizer for visible smoothness and luminosity.  You can also use under your foundation to fill in fine lines for a smooth base and to help keep your make up on for longer.
  2. Wear white eyeliner in your water line to make eyes appear less red. I like Benefit Eye Bright.
  3. benefit eye brightFor the perfect cat-eye, select a thin liner brush that is tapered to the point. I like Blacktrack Fluidline by MAC or Jane Iredale black liner. I often use brown liner for a more daytime look. (To clean up the flick of a cat eye, use a dampened, pointed Q-tip). Practice makes perfect.
  4. Always wash your makeup off before bed. That morning-after look has never been a good one, for anyone.  If you are on holidays I recommend Dermalogica pre-cleanse wipes for quick removal but you cannot beat using your cleanser, toner and moisturizer and exfoliating on a regular basis to keep your skin young and fresh.  Also, invest in a facial at least once a month if possible. CLICK HERE TO SEE FACIAL SERVICES OFFERED AT PURE.
  5. Try to avoid washing your hair everyday. Constant shampooing leaves hair dry and your scalp will create more oils to compensate for the loss of moisture. Instead, use a dry shampoo. I like EIMI Dry Me by Wella and style your hair into a ponytail or a braid when it’s a bit more oily.
  6. emyRemember, clean your makeup brushes regularly to fight against potential bacteria and breakouts! At least once a month, swirl brushes around in a mixture of warm water and mild antibacterial soap, then lay flat to dry.
  7. Exfoliate (I love Simple Sugars – Lavender) before applying self tanner to get rid of dead skin. Tanning products tend to cling to dryer areas and rougher areas, like your knees and elbows, so make sure they’re moisturized first.  Make sure you have all of your waxing and shaving done at least a day before applying tanner.  If you don’t have a tanning mitt, I have used an old white sock with a latex glove to protect my hands from browning – my favorite fake tanners are Cocoa Brown or St. Tropez.
  8. cocoaTo minimize pores, use a pore-minimizing facial wash followed by a toner. Make sure the toner is alcohol-free so it won’t dry out your skin.
  9. When using a cream product (blush or eyeshadow), lock it in by using a translucent powder over it.
  10. If you choose to use false eyelashes, remember to use the dark glue as it will blend in with the lashes. My favorite is Pink Duo one.
  11. Use a pumice stone on your feet after the shower to get rid of calluses.  Always keep your nails neat and painted. It looks so much more girlie and attractive. There is nothing worse than chipped nails.
  12. Invest in a good eye cream…worth every penny!! I love Dermalogica Multivitamin Eye & Lip Firm.
  13. xxxxxxxxxxxDrink lots of water daily and eat healthy – you are what you eat!! (Exercise – make it part of your daily routine).
  14. Always wear perfume. My fave at the moment is Serge Lutens – L’orpheline (available at Barney’s) but I switch it up all the time.
  15. Serge-Lutens-LOrpheline-BannerGet at least 8 hours of sleep.
  16. The first step to looking refreshed is moisturizer. Use an intense moisturizer in the morning, and then continue to apply a lighter cream throughout the day.
  17. Get your brows done by a pro on a regular basis and keep them filled-in using a combination of a pencil and shadow. Also, invest in a good quality brush for application. I love Jane Iredale’s Bitty Brow Kits.
  18. bittyKeep your teeth clean, fresh and white – go for regular check ups and cleaning at your dentist.
  19. Always moisturize after a shower – keeps your skin soft and supple and young looking.
  20. Smile.
